Law enforcement in Dnipropetrovsk has arrested a group of military personnel involved in orchestrating systematic desertion from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In exchange for monetary compensation, the individuals involved assisted their colleagues in smoothly exiting the military base, passing through checkpoints, and provided further instructions on how to evade law enforcement. The cost for such services ranged from $1,000 to $2,000.

Other military personnel were offered $4,000 to avoid participating in combat operations and to transfer to rear units.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Yesterday, February 26, operatives conducted 13 searches at the residences of the suspects, seizing mobile phones, vehicles, notes, and documents, as well as weapons and drugs.

Law enforcement established that a 38-year-old man organized the scheme, involving subordinates and other accomplices in the plan. Currently, four cases of desertion linked to the perpetrators have been documented.

11 individuals have been served notifications of suspicion under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 4 of Article 408 (desertion)

  • Part 1 of Article 114-1 (obstruction of legal activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

  • The organizer of the scheme has been served a notification of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer and receipt of unlawful benefits).
