A criminal mechanism was uncovered during a series of measures aimed at ensuring the defense capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in response to the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and preventing the leakage of weaponry into illegal circulation from military units engaged in combat missions.
As part of the operational combination, it was established that the deputy commander responsible for logistics in the unit decided to embezzle expensive equipment. In the documentation he prepared, it was stated that 24 night vision devices were lost in combat conditions. The value of the equipment amounts to nearly 4 million hryvnias.
In reality, he ordered his subordinates to hide the property in a pile of trash at one of the warehouses.
During searches at the locations of the military unit, particularly in its storage facilities and the residence of the suspect, material evidence of the criminal activity was seized.
He has been notified of suspicion for the embezzlement of military property by a serviceman, committed by a military official abusing his official position, which caused significant damage, committed under martial law (part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The suspect has been placed in custody with an alternative of posting bail in the amount of 7.7 million hryvnias.
The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to 15 years of imprisonment.
Within the framework of the pre-trial investigation, the involvement of other military personnel in the crime is being checked, including the command of the unit. A service investigation and inventory of military property in the unit has also been initiated.
