A 41-year-old man is suspected of illegally cutting down trees valued at nearly 1.3 million hryvnias, according to police in Pyatykhatky.

Police from the No. 7 station of the Kamianske District Police Department uncovered illegal activities involving a resident of Zhovti Vody. During the pre-trial investigation, detectives discovered that in October of the previous year, the offender illegally cut down over 130 acacia trees within the jurisdiction of the Pyatihatka City Council, without any legal grounds to do so.

According to the findings of the examination, the suspect caused damage to the environment amounting to nearly 1.3 million hryvnias.

In agreement with the Zhovti Vody District Prosecutor's Office, the individual has been informed of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 246 (illegal logging or illegal transportation, storage, or sale of timber) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
