In New York, the court has ruled that Donald Trump's sentencing for accounting fraud will proceed as originally scheduled on January 10, just days before his potential inauguration as president.

Trump is required to be present during the sentencing announcement either in person or via video link. The case pertains to his conviction for falsifying financial documents ahead of the 2016 election, during which he attempted to conceal payments made to actress Stormy Daniels. Consequently, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts.

In his ruling, Judge Juan Merchan stated that the most likely punishment for Trump would be a unique form of sentencing that would allow him to avoid both imprisonment and fines. However, the conviction will remain in effect even if no separate penalty is imposed.

This means Trump could become the first U.S. president to take office after being convicted of serious crimes.
