The head of Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, visited the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant to express support for efforts to ensure nuclear safety. This was reported on the Norwegian government's website, as noted by UNN.
Details
In his view, any threat to the nuclear safety of Ukraine and Europe is absolutely unacceptable. The minister also reminded that cooperation between Ukraine and Norway in the field of nuclear safety began in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. This partnership expanded after Russia's annexation of Crimea and its military actions in eastern Ukraine in 2014, and it strengthened with the onset of the full-scale war in 2022. In particular, in March 2022, Norway provided the Rivne NPP with essential spare parts to ensure uninterrupted operation.
He also expressed serious concern regarding the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under the control of Russian military forces. Accompanying the minister to the Rivne NPP was Per Strand, the director general of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA).
"Russia's attacks on the energy grid pose a direct threat to nuclear safety and the security of Europe," he emphasized.
Reminder
On the night of September 25, a low-flying Russian strike drone was recorded near the Rivne NPP. Energoatom warns of threats to nuclear safety and calls for an end to energy terrorism.
