8 октября: Всемирный день осьминога и День юриста в Украине.

Today, October 8th, animal rights activists and all fans of marine and oceanic wildlife can participate in events celebrating World Octopus Day, reports UNN.

According to zoologists, the ancestors of octopuses appeared on our planet over 300 million years ago. Currently, scientists have described and classified about 100 species of octopuses.

A characteristic feature of these cephalopods is their three hearts. The main heart, consisting of two atria and a ventricle, pumps blue blood throughout the body. The other two hearts push blood through the gills.

Octopuses are considered some of the most intelligent invertebrates - their brains show certain signs of gray matter. Each of an octopus's tentacles has up to 10,000 taste receptors.

The maximum known length of octopuses is 1.3 meters, with a maximum weight of 10 kilograms.

In Ukraine, since 1997, legal professionals have celebrated their professional holiday.

The date of the celebration is believed to be chosen quite intentionally. According to some historians, in October 1016, the first organized compilation of legal norms that were mandatory for execution appeared in Kievan Rus - the Russian Truth. The document is attributed to Prince Yaroslav the Wise.

If you add together all the digits of the year the Russian Truth was established, you get the number 8.

Today, one can also join World Biometric Day.

This event aims to promote and support the development of biometric technologies and their application in innovative artificial intelligence and cybersecurity technologies.

Various activities held on this day unite experts, scientists, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to discuss, debate, and explore trends, challenges, and opportunities in the field of biometrics, with the goal of advancing biometrics as a key technology of the future in various sectors.

Additionally, on October 8th, many countries around the world hold events in honor of International Podiatry Day - a science focused on foot health.

According to medical professionals, issues with the feet often lead to scoliosis, osteochondrosis, joint inflammation, and other musculoskeletal disorders.

Foot problems are common among athletes due to high physical demands, as well as among children who do not engage in much physical activity.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance for Saint Pelagia of Antioch.

This woman lived in the 3rd century, was a dancer, and led a promiscuous lifestyle.

One day, Pelagia accidentally listened to a sermon by Bishop Nonna. Inspired by it, she accepted baptism and became a nun.

Pelagia traveled extensively. One time, she was encountered by pagan soldiers who tried to seduce her. Pelagia refused them. This angered the soldiers, and they killed the nun.

The name days celebrated on October 8th include Pelagia, Euphrosyne, Alexander, Eugene, Maximus, Nicholas, Ostap, and Paul.
