Today, October 11, various events are taking place in many countries around the world to celebrate the International Day of the Girl, reports UNN.
The primary goal of this event, established by the UN in 2011, is to raise awareness about the issues faced by underage girls globally. Specifically, it addresses inequality, insecurity, and social injustice.
The main focus is on sexual violence, coercion into sexual relations, and early marriage. This is especially pertinent in countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
According to a survey conducted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), 2.5 million women reported being forced into sexual relations before the age of 15. Nine out of ten victims stated they experienced sexual violence from acquaintances and relatives.
For approximately 35 out of every 1,000 girls under the age of 15, sexual experiences result in pregnancy. About 62% opt for an abortion, while 38% choose to give birth.
At the same time, another objective of today's event is to showcase the opportunities available to women in the modern world. UNICEF is calling for a $1 billion increase in investments for adolescent girls, emphasizing the urgent need to enhance focus and allocate resources to key areas that enable girls to realize their rights and fully unleash their potential.
Since 1996, every second Friday in October is celebrated as World Egg Day. This event was initiated by the International Egg Commission at a conference in Vienna.
Eggs are not just a nutritious food item; they hold significant importance in many cultures and religions worldwide. To join the celebration of World Egg Day today, it's recommended to prepare a delicious dish that includes eggs.
Don’t limit your culinary talents to just chicken eggs; consider using quail, duck, goose, and even ostrich eggs.
Additionally, the second Friday in October is also recognized as International Veterinary Nurses Day.
The main responsibilities of veterinary nurses include handling paperwork in the clinic, preparing animals for treatment, assisting veterinarians during surgeries, and caring for animals in inpatient treatment.
According to the church calendar, today is the Feast Day of the Apostle Philip.
This man lived in Caesarea of Palestine and was one of the first to join Jesus. He was among those who participated in the famous feeding of the five thousand with two fish and five loaves of bread.
After the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, Philip remained in Jerusalem for some time before going on to preach in other lands and became a bishop.
One of Philip's four daughters had the gift of prophecy.
According to one account, Philip died of old age, while another suggests he was crucified by pagans.
Today’s name days are celebrated by Philip, Alexander, Anatoly, Hilarion, Joseph, Zinaida, and Victoria.
